Sonic Mania was a hit video game created by Sega in 2017 for Switch, Xbox, PS4, and PC.
In "Sonic Mania", Sonic had heard news of the new game being produced without him knowing when he left his position as The Creator in order to destroy it and it's native Sonic. He succeeded in doing just that, after which he promptly left to begin work on his own new game.
